1. Flexible network construction through fiber cable, can implement:
1)Point-to-Point Network Construction. Establish a high speed way between two computers; transmission speed is several Mbps or even several hundreds, can achieve 2 kilometers (multi-mode) and 5 kilometers (single mode).

2)Star network. Establish Star Network Topology Structure through optical network equipment

3)Ring network. Optical cable connects the signal regenerator to form a circle.

2. Notice the difference of the ports when using Fiber Optic converters to connect different equipments.
1)Connect between fiber optical converter and 1000BASE-TX equipment (switch or hub):
Confirm the maximum length of twisted-pair is no more than 100 meters; connect one end of the fiber optic converter to RJ-45 interface (Uplink interface), and another end to 100BASE-TX RJ-45 interface (common interface).

2)Connect between fiber optic converter and 100BASE-TX equipment (network card):
Confirm the maximum length of twisted-pair is no more than 100 meters; connect one end of the fiber optic converter to RJ-45 interface (100BASE-TX interface), and another end to RJ-45 interface of the network card.

3)Connect between fiber optic converter and 100BASE-FX:
Confirm the length of optical cable is in the distance range supplied by the equipment; connects one end of the optical cable to SC/ST, and another end to SC/ST interface of 100BASE-FX equipment.

3. Design of the optical system keeps to the following steps:
1)First, make clear what network is going to designed, how about its situation, and why need to use optical-cable.

2)Choose proper fiber optic network equipment、optical cable、patch cord and other thing for connect according to actual situation. Choose at the base of usable ness, and then take capability、price、service、origin and brand into consideration.

3)Decide the line according to customer’s requirement and the type of network, protract the picture.

4)Calculate the system attenuation if the line is long, following is the formula:
Surplus signal after Attenuation =output power-receiving sensitivity-line attenuation-connect attenuation (dB)
Line attenuation=optical cable length*unit attenuation;
Unit attenuation is related to quality of optical cable, in general, single mode--0.4~0.5dB/km;multi mode--2~4dB/km。
